You know the cost of a bottle of liquor or a bag of heroin. But what is the value in that purchase? What do you get for the price that you paid? The value that you get by and large is short term gratification that leads to long term destruction. There are prices to pay in recovery. We have to say goodbye to something that has helped us to feel good or escape trauma to make way for the value of a life beyond addiction. We can look back and find little value in what we paid for our misery. Today, I will recognize the value of a life that can take us beyond our expectations. Today I can have goals and not remain in a destructive relationship with alcohol and drugs.
