Stand Firm

Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but it’s always right. Once you have made the determination to stay sober stand firm. The more we allow distractions and excuses to enter our minds, the more we are drifting from a meaningful and lasting recovery. Especially early on, we have to deal with naturally occurring urges, cravings and temptations. Later on in recovery we have to deal with traumatic events like the loss of a loved one, the breakup of a relationship or the loss of a job. When we stand firm in our decision to stay sober, no matter what, we are able to weather temporary storms that everyone in life has to endure. Today, I will stand firm in my recovery. I will not be swayed by any temptation to give in, and can get through any challenges to my sobriety. When I feel like I want to pick up a substance, I will reach out for help and support. These urges are normal, and I can normalize them, and get the support necessary to overcome and stay on track in recovery.
