“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”

– C.S. Lewis

The past is history, the future is a mystery. All you have is today, and that’s why they call it the present. Dwelling on the past finds you living in misery. Focusing on a future that you can’t control is stress and anxiety producing. The more I focus on living my best life today, the less I will have to worry about the future, and I will come to find that I am better prepared to deal with tomorrow, when I choose to stay sober today. Allow yourself to dream a little bit as to how tomorrow and the days after will look when you choose to stay sober today. What might tomorrow bring? Many have found that by staying sober today leads to self-respect and the respect of others- it’s a life worth living. Today, I won’t futility try to change the past- it’s out of my control. I won’t project into an unknown future and allow myself to believe that a peaceful future is out of my grasp. Today, I will control what I have the power to control. I will make today the best day possible in sobriety, and when the chips fall, and I’m doing the right thing, they have a tendency to fall in a more healthy direction.
