“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.”

– George Eliot

As a child no one says they want to be a person with a substance use disorder when they grow up. Recovery offers us the opportunity to become who and what we might have been. You may not be President, or a rock star. You may not have millions of dollars. But a life of sobriety offers things like peace of mind; self respect; the respect of others; and the ability to get a job and keep a job. You can be almost anything you wish to be in recovery provided you remain committed to a sober life. Today, I will take a moment to reflect on what my goals are in sobriety. I will recognize that my ability to become the kind of person I wish to be is attainable, so long as I stay with a program of sobriety. My time to become that person is now.
