“When Everything Seems To Be Going Against You, Remember That The Airplane Takes Off Against The Wind, Not With It.”

The hardest day to stay sober is the first day. It’s the day when we have all of the excuses to put recovery off until tomorrow. We feel stress and anxiety, and the prospect of living our lives without a substance seems so overwhelming. Remind yourself that there are far more seemingly impossible things that occur everyday. It seems to make no sense how a jet plane weighing thousands of pounds has the ability to lift off of the ground and fly, yet thousands of planes take off everyday with the winds providing resistance against them. Similarly, there are people getting sober and living sober everyday. Today, I will not deny the stressors in my life, but recognize that no one lives stress free. I will embrace the wind, and push through it. A better destination awaits.
