-John F. Kennedy
There are those who say that the only thing constant in life is change. By staying stagnant in the lifestyle of use, we are frequently making things worse- so we are not avoiding change by staying the same. We are withering away toward death. The change from substance use to sobriety is a major change. It is a recognition that what may have been working for me in the past is not longer working for me today. Making that change helps us to move away from merely surviving, and beginning a life worth living. Living in this change provides hope for the future, not despair. Today, I will live in the present, but also live in change and growth. I will not allow myself to be defined by my past, but I will live in today to give myself the opportunity for a better future.
