The flower that blooms in the desert demonstrates the ability to thrive in harsh conditions and adversity. Does this sound familiar? When engaged in the lifestyle of use I was able to adapt and manipulate to maintain my addiction. If you were placed in the middle of the desert with no money, food or water, but you knew your drug of choice was around somewhere, it is likely that you would find it. Why? Because it would be important enough to you. Now you know that there is a fire that burns inside of you that emerges when things become important enough. In recovery, the path is rarely an easy one, without adversity. But you have what it takes to overcome and thrive in sobriety, despite any adversity that life throws your way. Today, I will accept that there are struggles in recovery. I will not allow the adversity- the urges, cravings and temptations to overcome my mission to stay sober. I will remind myself that anything worth having in life takes work, stress and time. When I put that kind of effort, and don’t give up, I will benefit the most.
