Show me 100 people who believe in the heads and hearts that this is life and death, who want to live, and I’ll show you a success rate far above the national averages. It’s not a question of whether you have what it takes to be sober. Recovery is not just meant for other people, it is meant for me too. Within me lies all of the tools necessary to get clean and stay sober. I have not abused alcohol or drugs my entire life. So somewhere within me is a sober person. My life does not need to be defined by what we have done, but rather can be re-defined by what I am doing today. Think of a time when you thought it was impossible to drink or drug, that you found a way to do so. Your resourcefulness allowed you to overcome obstacles when it was important enough. Today, I will let sober behaviors define who I am. I will  use the skills and tools that I have within me to make healthy choices. I will recognize that I am not unique, and that I have it in me to get sober, just like anyone else. I will get sober today, because I want recovery, and I won’t allow anything to get in my way.
