– T.S. Eliot
Imagine how society would look today, if every time we thought of a new idea, people would stop and say it hasn’t been done before. Would we have electricity, cell phones, airplanes? Almost everyday we hear about a new product or invention designed to make our lives a little easier. Science comes up with new cures for diseases. The only thing that stops progress is a lack of imagination, and an unwillingness to pursue our goals and dreams. I may have thought that sobriety was for other people, not for me. But how do I explain the millions of people who have found their way to a sober path? Am I really that different, special and unique that I can’t get sober, and stay sober? As long as I’m alive, hope and opportunity exist for me. In sobriety, I can find the peace and serenity that has eluded me as long as I’ve been addicted to a substance. Today, I will take the healthy risks necessary to achieve a goal of recovery. I will remind myself that rather than being impossible, that I’m Possible. I will stretch limits to see that I can go further, and achieve in recovery what I could never do in the lifestyle of addiction.
