“The greatest mistake you can make in life is continually fearing that you’ll make one.”

– Elbert Hubbard

Anything worth doing in life is worth doing imperfectly. Perfectionism and addiction have a tendency to go hand in hand. Perfectionists are afraid of trying new things because they may not be good or perfect at it. So in the case of substance use disorders, many people remain engaged in the lifestyle of use, because they are afraid that they don’t have what it takes to be sober, or that sobriety is not meant for them. Getting sober is more of a two steps forward, one step back process. I am going to make mistakes along the way. Today, I will not be afraid of making mistakes as long as I am moving forward in recovery. I will accept that there will be good days and bad ones, but today, I will not be afraid of mistakes or bad days. I will remember that my worst day in recovery stands to be better than any day in addiction.
