“Most great people have attained their greatest success one step beyond their greatest failure.”

-Napoleon Hill

The process of recovery is not an effort in perfection. Anything worth doing is worth doing imperfectly. Perfectionism guarantees misery. Therefore, we ought not to give up something worthwhile simply because we make some mistakes along the way. If we tell ourselves that we shouldn’t be having urges, cravings and temptations, then we are likely to get discouraged and mistakenly tell ourselves that recovery is not meant for me. Overcoming negative situations, thoughts and feelings allows me to experience the greatest success I’ve ever known. Today, I will persevere beyond the negativity. I will keep my eye on the prize of recovery and will reap the rewards that sobriety has to offer. I will not be defined by my mistakes and stay focused on the bigger picture- getting sober and staying sober no matter what.
