You Can Do It

The process of early recovery is uncomfortable. We tend to get more comfortable the longer we stay sober. You may have a voice in your head that tells you that you will never be successful in recovery, that you will always go back to use. But everyday you stay sober, the more quiet, and the less powerful that negative voice becomes. Remember, you are not the first person to get sober. Others have heard that same voice telling them that they can’t do it. Do the work of recovery to silence that voice. Today I will read, go to a 12-step meeting, meet with sober supports. I will do everything in my power to give myself the opportunity to silence the negative “you can’t do it voice”, to make room for a new voice that will let me know that I can be sober.
