Program Description
Individuals who are new to Sober at Home may want to try out our services without making the commitment to a closed-group package. This introductory package offers up to 3 open groups per week with access to 5 recovery workbook exercises. While this introductory group package limits your ability to develop connection and continuity with a closed group, it does provide support on demand when you want or need it most.
These daily affirmations, chosen and created by the Sober at Home team, offer motivational quotes and brief inspirational messages. We hope this simple daily encouragement and support help you find a positive and healthy state of mind to tackle the day.
This workbook is a compilation of lectures and activities that David Gerber has used with substance use disorder clients for over 30 years to effect change. We believe that active participation in our online groups, combined with the powerful introspective work contained in this workbook, will be the right formula for your change and success.
Consider the work in these exercises to be like an archeologist digging at an excavation site to get a better understanding of people. In this case you digging to discover a better understanding of yourself. It is an exploration of both the things about you and your behavior that are problematic, but also provides the opportunity to highlight your assets and strengths that can help motivate you to continue digging, learning about yourself, and making a change for the better. Many people never take the opportunity to do this kind of work to make positive changes in their lives. Find room for gratitude that you are making an effort to better yourself. Open groups are groups that occur at different days and times and are open to all subscribers. There are two purposes of open groups. First, new members who choose the open group option will have access to our workbook to provide a glimpse of the kind of support and education one could get from a closed group therapy session. Second, open groups will serve as additional support for individuals who are signed up for closed group packages. If you find yourself in a moment of weakness, if you are struggling, or could use some encouragement, you can sign up for an open group to get that additional support. Open groups may also offer specific topics for discussion.
Open support groups will look and feel like a group therapy session available to people when they want it.
Open topic groups will have various topics such as spirituality, mindfulness, relapse prevention, encouragement, etc. Participants that have an interest in a given topic can sign up in advance to participate.
Closed groups are groups that have a specific beginning and end. Participants who sign up for a closed group will have the opportunity to go through the phase with the same people they start the group with, and no additional individuals will be permitted to enter a closed group, once it has commenced. This builds group cohesion. Closed groups will meet at pre-selected days and times for a fixed time frame. Individuals who sign up for a closed group package will also have access to open groups.
