-Herman Melville
When we are engaged in the lifestyle of use, we limit ourselves to a constrained lifestyle that is either lonely, or we surround ourselves with others involved in substance use. The more we limit ourselves, the more we begin telling ourselves that there is no hope in sobriety. In this lifestyle we charge towards death. Getting sober means getting out of a comfort zone that we had become accustomed to. It is new, different and in some cases original. Part of the recovery process is to unbalance ourselves from what we are used to in addiction and allowing ourselves to be guided and rebalanced in recovery. Today, I will continue to break free of the life I had been leading. I will remind myself of the misery I endured, and the misery I may have caused others so that I can reinvent myself as an original in recovery. Today, I will practice honesty and let my actions speak to the new and different me.
