We have used alcohol and drugs to feel good; to cope with negative emotions; to deal with trauma. Yet while it worked for a while, even years for some, in the long run, it took more than it gave. Your life is valuable. Despite your imperfection, a life without substances opens your eyes to the meaning and reason you were put on this earth. Discontinuing our use helps us to move from being takers in life, and opens the doors to meaningful connections that allow us to be a part of and contribute to life.
