Zig Ziglar

Sometimes it is easy to see what you get by discontinuing your substance use. You get the opportunity to return to a more normal life. You get to wake up in the morning and not have to worry about how you are going to drink or drug. You may get to restore significant relationships in your life, or be able to return to a productive life. Perhaps more importantly, we don’t focus enough on how we change internally as a result of our getting sober. Sobriety does not guarantee a stress free life. However, it does give us an inner peace and serenity that we cannot know in the lifestyle of use. We can regain self-respect, and the ability to look at ourselves in the mirror and like what we see. Today, I will take stock on who I become on the inside as a result of my sobriety. I will take a moment to smile at my accomplishment, whether I am one day sober or have been sober for years.
