“Remember That The Happiest People Are Not Those Getting More, But Those Giving More.”

H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Have you ever experienced the feeling that no matter how much you had, it was never enough? The lifestyle of addiction is one that generally makes us “takers” in life, rather than “givers.” Skeptics will point to how much they gave–they paid bills and made sure that everyone was taken care of. But even in those cases we can look deeper and identify our selfish ways. The process of recovery helps us to shift the balance from only taking, to a life of giving and taking. We continue to benefit from self-care, but staying sober gives us the opportunity to be better givers as well. Not only do we give more, but when we are not engaged in the lifestyle of use we may come to enjoy giving and being of service to others.

Today I will find happiness in my work to become less of a taker and more of a giver. I will recognize that I can find satisfaction in giving and being a part of life again.
