When it came to the lifestyle of use, I rarely got to exceed my expectations. In fact, I most likely found myself living in misery, and the unexpected was typically bad. If my joy outweighed the negatives, I probably wouldn’t be seeking help today. Recovery and the life beyond your wildest dreams offers us the opportunity to open doors that we never dreamed of when using. Sometimes it’s as simple as not experiencing an urge or craving. As we continue in sobriety, we find ourselves being “can do” rather than “can’t do” people. Today, I will be open to good, healthy and positive things that are unexpected to my way. I will find gratitude and seek out the positives, rather than expecting the other negative shoe to fall. Today, I will embrace the capacity for good things to come my way.
