“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.”

-Aristotle

The lifestyle of use found us living in some dark times and places. In early recovery, when we are starting our journey, the road ahead may seem dark and murky as well. It requires focus and discipline not to give into urges, cravings and temptations. However, the longer we stay sober, the easier it is to focus and stay focused. The saying is that it is always darkest before the dawn. Don’t give up before you have the opportunity to see the sun of sobriety rise. Today, I will recognize that recovery does not guarantee all sunshine and rainbows. However, the more I allow myself to endure the dark days, the more I will appreciate the brighter days ahead. I will likely experience fewer dark days in recovery than when I was actively using, and be better equipped to handle dark days sober.
