Even if you haven’t been successful in past efforts to get sober, it does not serve as a predictor of future success. Like the lottery saying, “You have to be in it to win it,” you can’t get sober if you are not trying. Every effort to get sober brings you one step closer to a life worth living. You will strike out while you are in recovery as well. Everything is not going to go your way. You are best served when you don’t give up, but stay in the game.

Today, I will recognize that as long as I am in the game of recovery, I have the ability to attain my goals. I will recognize that I will strike out at times, but not allow it to deter my efforts. I have the ability to allow roadblocks and obstacles to enter and pass through my life and remember that setbacks are all but guaranteed, but the only urge that lasts forever is the one I give in to.
